The Place

The Ecological Sanctuary

Is the space dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the environment, a refuge of flora and fauna, and fertile ground for the diffusion of seeds, both seeds provided by nature and those of human knowledge. Our goal is to be a space for open discussion, to gather ideas and voices that shed light on ecologically sustainable development.

We are a holistic, multidisciplinary learning center, focused on human, technological and metaphysical advancement in harmony with the environment. As a hub of integral development, our mission is to spread physical and ideological seeds to the emerging culture of tomorrow.

Our sanctuary is home to the RPPN Grand Araucaria Forest and also the Research House, which provides infrastructure for the realization of a myriad projects. In addition, group accommodation, private lodging houses, a cafeteria and an auditorium for the realization of lectures, experiences and workshops are all to be found within our sanctuary.

The Reserve has various trails that can be hiked with a local guide. These paths weave through forests full of rivers, waterfalls, geological sculptures, and breathtaking landscapes endowed with exceptional beauty. The location is suitable to the contact with nature, study, field research, introspection and peace of mind.

We invite the Friends of the Forest to participate.

Infrastructure

Our infrastructure is comprised of houses, an auditorium, mess hall, chapel, nature trails and plenty of open spaces.

Recycled and demolition materials were used in the building of the lodging houses.

Each house was given a different color to make finding it easy.

The Yellow house contains 4 bedrooms, 2 of which are double beds, and 2 are single beds. Living room, fireplace, TV room, 2 bathrooms with electric showers, pantry, fully equipped kitchen, and patio with barbecue and outdoor table.

Accommodates up to 8 people.

We ask that guests observe the following house rules and regulations:

Trails

Our trails have been demarcated with the intention of offering visitors the possibility of visiting the Grand Araucaria Forest and contemplating its natural beauty. Treks vary in degree of difficulty and should be chosen taking into consideration the abilities, characteristics, and purposes of each group.

It is worth remembering that these trails are in a protected area and can only be visited by prior appointment and accompaniment by a local guide.

A low difficulty level trail that can be hiked by adults, children accompanied by parents, as well as senior citizens. The trail holds lots of aesthetic appeal, where the Araucarias forest (Mixed Ombrophilus Forest) can be seen. It also features a waterfall and a few areas where bathing is possible. Average walking time is about 30 minutes to the Fairy Cascade.

Helpful recommendations for trails and tours on the property:

- Because of the humidity of the location, it is necessary to use high boots. Rubber boots are ideal;

- Remember that because it is near the highest places in the state, temperatures can drop abruptly, so always take waterproof clothing, warm clothes and extra socks;

- On rainy days do not cross rivers, because water volume may increase rapidly, posing risks to crossing;

- Do not hike on stormy days when lightning strikes;

- Always take some food;

- Take along a coat and waterproof clothing;

- Always bring your trash back;

- Use repellent if you wish, but avoid using them if you are going to enter the rivers. This applies as well as other chemicals- shampoo, suntan lotions, etc;

- Do you know if you are allergic to bee stings, wasps and other insects? Make sure you know. If so, it is important to have/bring anti-allergy medication in case of need;

- Keep in mind that you are in a sanctuary, house of animals and plants. Cultivate silence and contemplation along the paths, it will be refreshing to listen to nature.

Intermediate difficulty level trail, with flooded stretches and stony areas. At the beginning of the trail the river can be seen running under the rocks. The trail leads up to a waterfall forming a huge shower. Visitors can bathe in the waterfall and contemplate how the water disappears among the stones.
